Readers may recall a recent environmental racism study, funded by Waste Management, which concluded that industry moved into white working class neighborhoods that later became minority populated, rather than industry always moving into minority neighborhoods. (CWMCN Vol. 2, Issues 4 & 5) Now a joint effort study comes from the Center for Policy Alternatives, the Commission for Racial Justice and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) reporting that while minorities may be more likely to live near waste sites, shifts in population demographics are responsible rather than industry seeking out minority neighborhoods. True "environmental justice" would be for Congress or the Courts to kill the "environment racism" viper, rearing its head with increasing frequency, before it turns into an "omnibus" juggernaut and discriminately crushes responsible waste management efforts necessary to sustain society in a technologically advancing manner.
